Executive Director: Hans Theyer
Hans worked in the financial and technology sectors in Chile before joining Microsoft and moving to Seattle, WA. After working in South East Asia and India, he joined Argos International, a development non-profit in 2009. Next, Hans set up Washington state’s first B Corp to assist companies weave social impact into their business strategies. In June 2013, he joined Fairtrade America, defining himself as a “sales guy” for farmers' goods. Hans cares passionately about rural and generational poverty and finding a way out for farmers. He now works to establish the Fairtrade International values in companies in the US.

Fairtrade America’s Board of Directors
Chair: Tony Hall is an international business consultant. He has spent many years promoting and supporting fair trade organizations. He focuses on helping them improve their strategic and marketing skills. Tim also is passionate about finding new outlets for fair trade products in Europe and the US.
Treasurer: Tim Beaty has 30+ years of experience in labor and community organizing. He is currently the Director of Global Strategies for the Teamsters. Through this work, Tim offered valuable advice to revise the Hired Labor Standard. He works with CRS Fair Trade in his local parish.
Secretary: Gilberto Amaya Gilberto Amaya is an international development specialist with 30+ years of experience. His previous work with producer organizations focused on income generation, sustainable livelihoods and resilience.
Katherine DiMatteo is the Executive Director of the Sustainable Food Trade Association. She has worked in a variety of capacities within the organic industry since 1990. Katherine helps businesses grow as a managing partner at Wolf, DiMatteo + Associates. She was the executive director of the Organic Trade Association from 1990 to 2006. While there, Katherine shaped the outcome of the US National Organic Program standards.
Werner Kiene has 40 years of development experience. He held positions with the Ford Foundation and the UN World Food Program. He served in advisory roles for FLOCERT, the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. Werner is currently Chair of the Marine Stewardship Council’s Board of Directors.
Carlos Reynoso is the General Manager of Manos Campesinas, a coffee cooperative in Guatemala. He has held various positions representing producers.
Dan Arnett is the Cooperator in Chief of Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op. He is also a Graduate Program Adjunct Professor at the Presidio Graduate School. Dan has served on the board of the National Co+op Grocers Association, bringing a wealth of experience in co-op management. Dan holds a Master of Management in Cooperatives and Credit Unions from Saint Mary’s University.
