Tony’s Chocolonely was the first Fairtrade certified chocolate bar in Dutch supermarkets 11 years ago. From the moment their very first bar saw the light of day They’ve been Fairtrade certified.
Tony’s Chocolonely sees certification as a starting point. That believe that chocolate makers are ultimately responsible for the they use chocolate and the whole supply chain, not the certifier. Based on Tony’s calculation, the farmers they work with need an extra $175 was needed above the Fairtrade premium of $200 per metric tonne, to be reach a living income. So the company fills this gap with an extra premium, the Tony’s premium.
