Fairtrade International commissioned True Price, Committee on Sustainability Assessment (COSA) and GeoTraceability to examine household incomes of cocoa farmers in Côte d'Ivoire, in order to inform Fairtrade's 2017-2018 cocoa price review as well as the development of its Living Income Strategy for Cocoa. This report contains a summary of the report as well as Fairtrade's detailed response.
This study assesses the impact of Fairtrade on cotton producers and their organizations in Mali, Senegal, Cameroon and India. One Producer Organization from each country participated in the study. The impact analysis forms the basis for a series of recommendations aimed at improving the Fairtrade system in favor of cotton producers, on-farm workers, and their organizations and communities. The Fairtrade system is committed to understanding how its systems and certification have an impact on farmers and workers in developing countries. In 2009, the Fairtrade Foundation initiated a long-term study to learn what difference Fairtrade is having on groundnut, tea and sugar farmers and workers within Fairtrade-certified organisations in Malawi. This is the second-phase report.
