Celebrating Fair Trade Month with a Wine and Chocolate Tasting
This Fair Trade Month, Fairtrade America, Divine Chocolate, La Riojana Wine, and Takoma Park Silver Spring Co-op (TPSS) celebrated the simple pleasures through a Fairtrade wine and chocolate tasting!
Divine Chocolate, a social enterprise started by a co-op of cocoa farmers in Ghana, sampled their best sellers, 70% Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate with Sea Salt, and Dark Chocolate with Raspberries, and their new Organic 85% Dark Chocolate with Lemon. Like so many chocolate lovers, Takoma Park Silver Spring was hooked on Divine’s Organic bars and will now be adding three of the Organic bars to their extensive ethical chocolate shelf. With the support of retailers and customers like those at TPSS, Divine has contributed $4 million to support cocoa farmers in Ghana.
La Riojana Wines, the single largest producer of Fairtrade certified wines in the world, sampled their Argentine Malbec, Torrontes, Rose, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines were such a hit with TPSS that they sold out by the end of the night. Each purchase lasts long beyond just a tasty sip. Since 2006 La Riojana Wines has invested $3 million in 36 projects focused on healthcare, education, and community development.
TPSS shoppers made simple choices to fill their new Fairtrade shopping bags with powerful purchases, connecting with farmers in Ghana and Argentina in celebration of Fair Trade Month.
